Achievements of 7Hills
Overcoming obstacles and challenges is a fundamental part of life. Without adversity, we would never learn or grow as individuals. Every time we face a difficult situation, we have the opportunity to learn more about ourselves and develop our resilience. It is natural for us to feel fulfilled whenever we succeed at something. These achievements set us up for further success in the future. Without a doubt, it has been crucial in its development as the 7Hills in this very short period of its service.
7Hills for years of its existence has at least 747 fully registered members in its SACCO. This has partially fulfilled the founders’ dream of job creation and promoting a saving culture among the Ghetto youths and women who at a time had no optimism due to the feeling of neglect and unwanted. The cooperative organization has also promoted unity among the members hence a positive interaction of improving one another in terms of sharing ideas that are beneficial.
It is with zero doubt that the Association of 7Hills has partially or indirectly contributed to harmony within and around the Capital City. Eyes can see and statistics can tell, ever since the Association took roots to enrage the youth and women, there has been a remarkable drop in the numbers of riots, hooliganism, idleness, and criminal acts as well as deeds in the city because the youth have employment, as a thing to keep the busy and not idle for the devil to take toil of their minds. They also have so much to lose if misbehaving occurs with them inclusive unlike previously.
It is a melancholic object for one to throw stones at the 7Hills Association and forget to analyze the past because it is through examining the past that we understand and heal the present problems. Present can tell, 20% of former street and trench dwellers now can afford to rent their own rooms, meaning they can no longer engage in criminal related acts such swindling, substance use, to mention but a few because this no longer defines them ever since they joined the association. For this, we can take pride of the Seven Hill for the rehabilitation and transformation made within these individuals.
Nothing hits right and best like have a sense of belonging and that has been the greatest initiative of the 7Hills to promote, shelter and mother the less optimistic Ghetto youth and women through encouraging them to process a National Identification Card as a fundamental requirement of the 7Hills Association. It is with trustworthy empirical data that 80% of its active members now have Ugandan National Identification Cards. This, has showed the members that they are recognized Ugandan citizens, and have a say in the positive but negative transformation of their mother land since they belong to her.
With partnership with K2 tele com, 7Hills has at least eased communication within the Association. “It helps us communicate transparency through SMS how much each individual has saved.” For us who have seen and read the journey of the Association, we can tell the hills and valleys, the oceans crossed, the forests penetrated and the mountains climbed, it has not been a walk in the park rather, a struggle to survive. From the cold, dirty, stinky drainages to striking contracts, this can portray the milestone and step stepped.
“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world” Joel A. Barker. The 7Hills has continued to demystify myths that “rich people only own bank accounts,” through its realistic visions. “98.5% have bank accounts number. We remit our workers’ wages and salaries through these accounts.” And it is also through these accounts that the saving culture within the Association is promoted among members and some, have gone ahead to get shares in banks.
Still under the finance, 98% of the Association members are able to save NSSF due to the National Identification Cards attained when being recruited into the system. The members pay PAYE and Local service tax, this therefore presents these once seen as useless people in the nation, as responsible citizens because they contribute to the country’s development through paying these taxes.
“When you give joy to other people, you get more joy in return. You should give a good thought to happiness that you can give out.” Eleanor Roosevett. 7Hills and its patriotism has tried to bring joy to the people in the communities in which it serves and the country at large. Zero seconds back, their commitment to give out joy through their works and services was once more portrayed during the NAM and G77 Summits, which were hosted in one of the division they serve, they were able to clean the roads to at least a standard and kept them clean day and night. This was such a remarkable patriotic and nationalistic deed, once more portrayed since they worked with no complaints even though nothing at that time crossed to their bank accounts.
“Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it’s all over” Octavia Butler. It would look selfies of the Association, not count their partnerships and relations with other organizations and enterprises as an achievement because it is through these unions that the association has kept on the move. For example, Dr. Dorothy Kisaka and Mr. Adolf, have selflessly shouldered their burdens and bared every insults hurled at her because of providing grounds to participate in jointly making Kampala a better and smart city.
Additionally, the 7Hills applauds the HAM- Enterprises for the tireless support rendered to them. “Hajj Hamis Kigundu in his own way has supported and provided guidance on how we can push forward. As such during the NAM summit, he was able to engage our members in the massive royal palm tree planting exercise all over Makindye.” The same goes to Mr. Barigye, Honorable Kyofa, among others.
Conclusively, with partnership with the military police in Makindye, the 7Hills has given back to the community through the massive cleanup that took place at the National Referral Hospital Kirudus, St. Francis Hospital Nsambya and Kibuye Community Market on the TARAHE, Sita 43rd Celebrations.
